The village of Lagrasse
Discover the village of Lagrasse in Cathar Country between Narbonne and Carcassonne, officially listed one of "the most prettiest villages in France".
Officially listed as « one of the prettiest villages in France », the small medieval village of Lagrasse in the Occitanie region of southern France, is nestled at the foot of the Corbières mountain range surrounded by vineyards and hills in the heart of Cathar Country.
Located on the "châteaux of Cathar route" - the nearest Cathar château is located 20 km away in Termes - Lagrasse is home to the medieval abbey of Sainte-Marie-d’Orbieu, an architectural masterpiece still inhabited by canons.
The public part of the abbey is owned by Aude's departmental council whilst the private areas are reserved for the Canons Regular of the Mother of God, a community under the rule of Saint Augustine. Lagrasse, a pilgrimage site and place of retreat, is a village which owes its charm to the feudal period and its wild countryside.
The Hostellerie des Corbières, located in this charming village at the foot of the Corbières mountain range, is ideally located for exploring the area, a hotbed of culture, brimming with places of interest to visit.
